Dependant
Visas are easily obtained when the applicant fulfills the appropriate
criteria from immigration.
In
essence, anyone of three categories of relative may be sponsored for
a dependant visa by the appropriate person in possession of a
valid entry visa for Hong Kong. The three categories are,
-
A
spouse
-
Dependent
children
-
Dependent
parents
No
other categories of relationship are considered eligible for a dependant
visa by the Immigration Department.
This
type of visa, previously one of the most flexible types of visa, allowed
the holder to partake in virtually any activity without obtaining the
consent of the Immigration Department, had its conditions of stay changed
with effect from 1st July 2003. Any person holding a dependent
visa that was effective before this date need not apply for new sponsorship
when undertaking employment, training, starting a new business or whatever
the holder chooses to do. Under the new immigration policies though,
except for special discretionary cases, all dependants must now apply
for the appropriate visa should they wish to work, train or start a
new business. All current dependant visas granted will only act as a
residency visa.
The
application process for a dependent visa is relatively simple and the
visa should be granted without problems as long the required supporting
documentation is provided.
